Youtube Video And Channel Up!

- Life Update -

#3

So I finally did it! I have now finally uploaded a video onto Youtube.

I know, I know. This it isn't exactly the Procon Boy FWA airbrush review, nor is it the MG Nu Gundam Ver. Ka review. Heck, it isn't even a review. It's just a simple unboxing. But not to worry! I've already filmed a review for a very special RG kit (well not really, it's just my first RG and the kit that got me back into the hobby). All I need to do if make the audio and upload it.

It'll be up and done by tomorrow though so stay tuned for that! Also, I've already received some support from the some Youtube members and I can't thank them enough. They've really given me that push to create more videos - so I won't let them down.

Iv'e also decide to redo my video review for the Procon Boy FWA. I just thought that it was a little shaky and the audio just wasn't all that great so I'm going to redo it and maybe film tomorrow or something.

I'll be at uni tomorrow so I'll be able to upload the RG Kit Review. Really fast internet over there (considering it's Australia).

So that about does it for this update, I thank you guys for taking the time to watch the video and read this post. I hope for all the best on your Gunpla endeavours!

Bad Luck - Exam & Future Of This Blog

- Life Update -

#3

Bad luck - exam

Another life update and a quite rather unfortunate one. So at the moment it's 1:30 PM - approximately 30 minutes into my exam..... or so I would have thought. Turns out I missed my exam.

I woke up at 10:20 AM, thinking I would arrive to Uni about an hour and a half early, you know...for good caution and all. Wouldn't want to miss out on my exam of course. By the time I get ready and arrive at the bus stop, it's 10:56. Two minutes before my bus comes, awesome! It's 11:06, why hasn't the bus come yet? I look back on the timetable and what do you know, the bus w2as actually at 10:54. What a bummer! That's alright, I'll just get to Uni an hour early, that's still pretty good.

I walk back home because well, I'd rather wait 30 minutes at home for the next bus than 30 minutes at the bus stop. It's 11:20, okay 10 minutes before my bus comes, I'll get to the bus stop early before I miss this one - just in case.

I'm waiting at the bus stop and think, 'well I might as well look at my timetable, for extra precaution of course'. I look down and to my dismay, the timetable says my exam was at 9:00 AM! My whole world just fell at that moment. 'How could this happen to me?!?!'. Turns out, the exam that was at one was the exam I have tomorrow.

So now I'm writing this now because well, I feel really bad and I might as well update you guys as to what happening with me at the moment. Just a string of bad luck!

On the plus side, I am still able to redo the subject, albeit it'll cost me another $1300 or so. It's an online only course so I guess it wont really interfere with my 3 and a half month holiday at the end of the year. I only half to rock up to the exam so it's not exactly the end of the world but still a huge disappointment. It feels like I'm going through a string of trials and bad luck at the moment

One more plus, after my exam tomorrow and perhaps getting an earful from my parents tonight (hopefully sympathy will befall them), I'll be able to get back to building model kits and I'll finally be able to make a start on my goal of modifying plamo!

Some Side Notes:

I'll probably be receiving a package by the end of the week with to model kits. They'll be a very nice addition to my backlog (fortunately decreasing although slowly), and will be a very refreshing change from gunpla. Still Plamo but don't worry, I think a lot of you guys will really like what's coming so stay tuned!

I'll also probably be posting a new page on this blog with my wishlist or at least, hopeful kits.

With almost a month holiday from now until the next trimester begins, it'll give me the perfect opportunity to start editing the videos I've already got lined up.

The long awaited (no one's really waiting on it, just sounds better) Procon Boy FWA airbrush, Mg Nu Gundam Ver. Ka and Mg Barnaby Brooks Jr. reviews are all in the works and in time pipeline. A HG Age Fx build video(s) will are also in the plans along with a definite review for it.

One more note, I may make a separate page for review as well, just to easily locate them for those interested.

Well, that about does it for this update guys, a rather unfortunate one accommodated with some bright news that.

Once again guys, I thank you for taking the time to have a read and hope for all the best in your Plamo endeavours!

Life Update #2

- Life Update -

#2

Well exams are tomorrow, just 12 hours from now and thought to take a small break from revision before heading off to bed.

Unfortunately all I can think of right now is making a Hi Nu Gundam Custom Build with either the previously released MG Hi Nu Gundam, the MC Model Hi Nu Gundoom ( an original plastic recast of a resin kit) or the MG Nu Gundam Ver. Ka.

MG Nu Gundam Ver. Ka.

I'm kind of leaning towards the Mg Nu Gundam Ver. Ka because of it's awesomeness its already a great base to make a Hi Nu Gundam build. Of course chances are, you've already seen countless Hi Nu customs where the modeller just did a straight repaint to the Ver. Ka. I'm leaning more towards a more customized build where I'll scratch build the backpack of the Hi Nu and attach it to the Nu Gundam. Of course there are also some more cosmetic changes that will have to be done but in the end, may make the most satisfying ways to build the Hi Nu. To top it off, the included base works x 1000 better than the Mg Hi-Nu's included base and makes posing the funnels x 1000 more menacing.

I also love the inclusion of the 'Psycho Frame' so that's always a huge bonus.

MG Hi-Nu Gundam

I have seriously thought about buying this kit so many times but there was always something about it that bothered me a little - enough to not have bought it yet. It does look nice but some things like the head design, the shoulders, the backpack and the limited articulation in the waist have made me hesitate pressing the buy button.

The thing I love about the kit the most (enough to make me really consider it an option) are the included effect parts. The Nu Ver. Ka. doesn't come with them and a Hi Nu just doesn't really seem to feel complete without them.

MC Model Hi-Nu Gundoom

This is a HUGELY infamous kit. I think it would be hard to deny that the kit looks a little better than Bandai's MG. However it gets an unnecessary amount of hate because it isn't a Bandai product. A Gundam kit that isn't produced by Bandai is not official. Period. But I just don't feel right calling it a knockoff, a bootleg, a fake and a replica certainly doesn't make any sense. A Gundam plastic model kit not produced by Bandai is called a fake. But resin kit or a resin conversion kit of the Gundam isn't called pronounced a fake? To me, that just doesn't make any sense. If a kit needs to be plastic in order to be labelled a fake or 'cheap knockoff' then that just doesn't feel right.

I feel it's the same people who label the MC Model Gundooms and the MC Model MG Tallgeese 3 a 'cheap knockoff' who are also praising the beauty of a resin kit. It just seems like double standards playing it's part here.

NOTE: Please don't get me wrong guys, I fully support Bandai's kits and don't think it's fair to use a replica in a commission work unless your price is greatly marked down and the customer is fully aware of it's unofficial status. However saying this, I will not knock or see any person purchasing and building a replica negatively just because of their decision to save on a few extra dollars. It's a topic of feel should be expanded on in a later post.

Anyway, the reason I'm considering the kit is because of the awesome design of the beam sabre. That, and the fact that it's already a Hi Nu are the only reasons I'm considering it. Chances aren't very likely for this to happen as I would rather purchase a Bandai kit and support them than purchase a Non-Bandai kit. No matter what, a Bandai kit will always provide a little more superior product in it's make than Non-Bandai gunpla.

Anyway, that about does it for now. I think I'm just going to wrap it up here and head off to bed.

Once again guys, I thank you for taking the time to have a read and hope for all the best in your Plamo endeavours!

Kogan Warranty Scam

- KOGAN WARRANTY SCAM -

*BEWARE AND AVOID*

So I guess your interested in the story of KOGAN'S Warranty Scam. Well then you came to the right place. Here it goes.
So here's just some extra information that will add to the story:
My phone is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005, at the time it cost me around $800.
My phone has always had a screen protector. For the past 6 months, I've had a tempered glass screen protector on the device so that not a single scratch would appear on the screen. It would also ensure that any damage to the screen would occur to the glass screen protector before anything else. This means that if the phone was to sustain any force or impact, the glass screen protector would break before a single scratch is to occur on the screen. In effect, the glass screen protector is a shield that would break before any damage to the underlying layer. There are countless demonstrations on Youtube if you'd like to see for yourself. It is also protected by a medium - heavy duty case: The UAG case. So anyway, back to the story.
I lent my phone to my brother for music at the gym (because his phone ran out of battery). All was good until I got home and received a call. I couldn't hear a single thing and was very confused. I thought that it was a software malfunction and so I restarted the phone and unfortunately, that didn't solve anything.
Through testing and outsourcing opinions from the folks at XDA, it was evident that the earpiece was busted. So I contacted the company that I had purchased the phone from (KOGAN) and they asked me to ship it out to them. That was all good until I got an email back from them saying that the screen was cracked and that was what led to the earpiece failure. I was 100% sure there was not a single scratch or damage to the screen prior to them handling the device, nevertheless I asked them to send me pictures. They did eventually send them to me saying that the phone's screen was cracked and under warranty, they were not liable to do anything for me. To make things even worse, they told me that my warranty was now void. Of course as you can imagine, I was pretty upset - after spending $800 on a new device and being told that I was at fault for the damage was pretty gutting to say the least.
Luckily, I had taken about a half dozen photos of the phone face the night before I shipped it out. I reviewed them all and none of them showed any defect at all, no sign of the crack they had pictured. So it was evident that the technician cracked the screen when they tried to remove the face from the main body. They are now saying that I was the cause of the damage and they were under no obligation to rectify the issue. To make it worse, they said my warranty was now void and I would have to pay $38 to have my phone back. Clearly a saddening plight to get rid of me as soon as possible and to apply the least amount of effort and money to fix the issue they created in the first place.

I sent them the pictures I had of the phone and told them that it doesn't take a microscope to realise that the screen was in perfect condition before they had their technician examine it. I also sent them a response to the email making reference to the Australian Consumer Law and how they may have violated some of the sections by damaging my phone, lying to me and then prematurely voiding my warranty. So now the game begins - I've yet to receive a reply from them yet.

Although I really hate to make someone's day bad by complaining and becoming a little aggravated at them, I still feel that they had no right to damage my phone and accuse me of the wrong. So i'm going to have to call them up and make complaints *sigh*.
NOTE: Directly from their response to me: "In returning the item, we only ask that you cover the postage costs that are involved for us receiving and sending back the unit to you as we are waiving the technician fees involved as a gesture of goodwill." A gesture of goodwill? Really? That is about the lowest call of goodwill I have ever heard of. It's actually disgusting how terrible people can be.

Although I do still feel like I'm fighting a losing battle, I still need to try.

Just a few pictures to show you the inconsistencies in their report:

The first two are directly from them. The other three are from me the night before I sent the phone off to them.

Well I guess that about wraps it up for today, I'm definitely going to give them a call tomorrow. I don't know if they haven't contacted me back yet because they just haven't gotten around to look at my reply or perhaps they realise that I'm no fool and wont take their distrustful words as truth. I know that the person who is replying to me is just doing their job and I somewhat respect that but knowingly lying to a person just to save the business a few bucks is disgusting. The real person to blame all this for is the incompetent technician whose lacking ability resulted in damaging my $800 device. But in the end, this post is just an awful reminder to STAY AWAY from KOGAN AT ALL COSTS! I would really hate to see someone fall into their trap of deceit and treachery especially after spending a large sum your hard earned money.

So please, unless you are willing to risk fighting a long losing battle with a company only interested in your money, then please at all costs refrain from buying anything from Kogan. Their prices may be lower than your brick and mortar's but in the end the risks of purchasing any item from Kogan far outweigh the extra $20 that your local brick and mortar's is charging you. If you live here in Australia like I do, then your best bet is to buy from JB-HI-FI, Dick Smith or Harvey Norman. My sister's HTC One X had a system fault a while back and they replaced the motherboard for her. The most expensive part of the phone was replaced under warranty and she was still able to file a warranty claim until her warranty was up.

A long post (I know) but I thought was very necessary.

EDIT: After I replied to them, I didn't receive a reply back for 3 days. When I gave them a call, they told me the matter was escalated. I received an email the next day from the Assistant Support Manager saying the matter has been escalated to him and he will over see the matter.

The next week, he along with the head technician decided to fix the screen they broke and fix the loose connection that was stopping the earpiece from functioning.

Now, I just have to pick it up from the post office. After a month with no phone, I've finally gotten it back (well kind of). Update as to the condition of the device will be up once I pick it up tomorrow morning.

Have any of you received any poor treatment from Kogan or another store? Anyone currently or previously fought a seemingly losing battle? I would very much be interested to learn about to the experiences of others. Post them down below or contact me personally if you'd like to share anything and it would be greatly appreciated by onlookers as great reminders of good service vs. terrible (a.k.a Kogan) service.

Life Update #1

- Life Update -

#1

Hey guys, I know it's been a long time and all. Every time I get on here, I always start off very enthused and keen to post updates as often as possible, but every time I complete and publish one or two posts, life gets in the way. So I decided to update you guys on what's going on with me at the moment and what I've been planning for the future of this blog. So let's get started.

First of all, I have finished the MG Nu Gundam Ver. Ka. and will be posting a review of him sometime in the future - so don't worry it will happen. There are three main reasons I've been putting it off. They are pretty important or something very big for me at least. They are:

  • For a while now, I've been wanting to make Youtube videos. I was thinking of doing something very similar to Vegeta8259 (Henry) on Youtube. His work is great and lots of people seem to really like his channel and content (me included). So I was inspired by him to make a channel for myself and post reviews, W.I.P and possibly unboxing? I may also eventually do some other non-modelling updates or something along those lines along the way.
  • Exams are very soon for me (first one in 4 days and will last for two week). I haven't really had the time to do much work on any of my kits and because they are approaching so fast, I haven't been able to give myself enough time to start to build a new kit (even a HG). Apart from this time that I'm taking to write this up, I haven't had the opportunity to relax and wind down. Progress will start back up after exams though so look out for that, I will keep busy!
  • Views on this blog have been very slow - just under 2000 total views on the blog ( a HUGE THANK YOU though). Seeing that some days, I only have a total of 1 view or some days in a row, not even a single view. So that kind of kills the enthusiasm a little bit.
  • One of the biggest and most FRUSTRATING reason for the absence of any produce is my phone. A pretty long story so I'll just make a quick summary of the events: My note 3's earpiece stopped working to due a hardware fault. I sent it back to KOGAN for repairs under warranty. During the inspection, the technician cracked my screen. They are now blaming me for the fault and have void my warranty due to their mishandling. They are now trying to charge me $38 to have it sent back to me (damaged and unrepaired. If you'd like to hear the full story, just check out my next post as I may as well tell you all the events - it'll make for a very interesting read and may just serve as the perfect reminder to stay clear from KOGAN at all costs and better to trust your local brick and mortar store.

What does this have to do with my absence? Well, the Note 3 was what I was using to film some content for future videos because it shoots in 1080P and even better for more futureproofness (not really a word but oh well), it can shoot in 4K video! Awesome, awesome stuff but now I cant do that and can't really film with anything that will provide great quality for you guys (making exception to the DSLR we have at home - just a little more inconvenient and much larger to handle with video). So I guess it may have to wait a little longer or perhaps much longer. If it takes much longer, then I'll just use the DSLR. In the mean time, I'll just edit the videos and post them up when ready.

So some more updates:

YOUTUBE

With regard to Youtube, like stated above, I've been wanting to make videos for a while now. Something that may strike your interest is content that involves modding of gunpla and other plastic model kits.
I've been really wanting to start doing modding to gunpla for a long time as I always look at custom work before I buy a kit. For me, modding is what makes a kit really shine, something that will allow you to add a little something of yourself onto a half completed canvas. Of course, I'm not knocking anyone who just builds kits or someone who just panel lines and topcoats. Those are all preferences and if you are happy with that, then by all means continue to do so. Modding is just something very appealing to me and something that I really want to start to get into. Granted a have scribed panel lines before onto kits but not very many that would make much of a difference to a completed kit. So I will definitely create videos for you guys with modding involved. I'll also have showcasing of completed kits to accompany reviews, tutorials, unboxings, package arrivals and maybe even some life updates on video.
Please let me know if you'd be interested at all if I were to create Youtube videos.

FUTURE OF THIS BLOG

Well I don't really have many views considering I've had this blog up for maybe a year now. I don't even know if anyone bothers to check back on here. I still wont give it up anytime soon but I will be focusing more on creating videos than updating content on here but that doesn't mean that the blog will be worthless. I will still showcase all my completed kits and will still write up reviews of kits. It may just be a little delayed or perhaps a little early when compared to the uploading of my videos. But they will still be there so don't worry.

There are some things reviews or W.I.P that need to be completed before I'm done with them so those will be up soon also. Namely the MG Nu Gundam Ver Ka. build, the Procon Boy FWA review and the update towards the Bandai moulding error

Well to wrap it all up here's a summary if you would rather see the what content is here before you read the whole post.
  • Plan to make Youtube videos for your enjoyment
  • Plan to start modding and have a kit in mind already
  • Exams for me soon
  • KOGAN's warranty scandal
  • Full story of KOGANS's warranty issue in the next post
  • Update on MG NU Ver. Ka.
  • Saddening tale of poor views :'(

Well thanks again guys and hope you all well. Good Night and apologies for a long post!

#4 Package Arrival

- Special Edition Arrivals -

#4 What Just Came In

Okay, to be honest....this isn't very recent. I've had this post saved as a draft for over a month now, I just kind of forgot about this blog (again). But hey, something is better than nothing right?

You might be wondering why I have two of the exact same airbrushes pictured below. The answer would be because I accidentally dropped the needle chuck from one of the airbrushes down the drain while I was cleaning it - preparing for the final review. Of course that would also be the reason the final review hasn't been uploaded yet (really sorry by the way).

So as to not make this too short, I'll let you guys in the story: I bought the first one from HLJ as a replacement to my Badger Krome which I had sold. SO I was really keen to finally have it in my hands and use it. Of course being the sicklad that I am, I wanted to make a review for you guys, just to inform all the people out there looking at this airbrush in particular before investing their hard earned casholah. So it finally arrived an I was psyched.

I immediately took pictures of it for the blog. After all that was done, I decided that the best way to fully test it out was to completely paint the kit solely with this airbrush....and that's exactly what I did. I picked out the MG Wing Gundam EW as the candidate for this experiment and shot through all sorts of paints with the airbrush. I used:
  • Acrylic Primers
  • Tamiya Acrylic Metallics
  • Tamiya Acrylics - Gloss and Flat
  • Tamiya Enamels - Gloss and Flat
  • Tamiya Enamel Clear Paints
  • Top Coat - Gloss and Matte Varnishes
As you can see, that is quite the list of paints and ranging from all sorts of acrylics to all sorts of enamels. Not to ruin the (already late) review but it shot through all these paints without a single problem. Not even the metallic had an effect on the airbrush (metallic are prone to clogging up fine airbrushes because they tend to be a little thinker than regular paints). So as you may be able to tell, I was quite happy with the results. Now when I had finally completed painting the kit and was preparing the airbrush for its final cleaning before the review, I accidentally dropped the needle chuck down the drain. It was definitely one of those slow motion moments where you cant help but watch in regret. So as everyone who's watched a few cartoons would do, I attached a magnet to a piece of flossing wire and lowered in down the pipe. I was soon to find out that the piece is not even metal, so I picked up nothing at all. So that happened and kind of sucked a little - actually, quite a lot.

When I completed cleaning the rest of the pieces, I immediately looked up on eBay and all these other sites for a replacement needle chuck. There were barely any available (Iwata HP-C Needle Chuck) and the fact that I live here in Australia really doesn't help. In fact, the cheapest I could find one would cost me $60 and its not even metal! I was pretty devastated and went to be a sad man.

In the morning I checked again except this time, I decided to have a gander at Gumtree (couldn't lose hope yet) and to my surprise, there was someone selling their brand new Procon Boy for $50. Better yet, I was even able to get it for $50 including shipping. So now as you can imagine, my spirits were lifted. I contacted him straight away and gave him my offer. It took him around 2 das to replay and said that he'll do it! I was pretty ecstatic but it all seemed too good to be true so I was a little suspicious. Hey what is there to lose right ? (Apart from the hard earned cash of course.) But I decided to take a gamble anyway. I sent him over the money and it took him another 2 days to respond so in that time I was kind of getting nervous. He did end up replying back saying that he'll be able to ship it the next day. I waited 3 days (which is usually that time it takes for a package from across Australia to get to the other side). I then messaged him asking if he had sent it yet, he said no. It took him another 3 days after that to send it and now I was a little relieved. It took over a week and the whole time, he hadn't replied to any of my messages so I thought GAME OVER. I lost the gamble.

To my surprise it actually came, albeit it took 10 days to arrive. I thanked him and that was that. So now that's the story and reason of why I have two of the exact same airbrushes. A little long winded right?

So after all that, it has now taken me another month and a nit to upload this post for you guys to see. Sorry to make it so long and now you can enjoy the (not so amazing) 2 photos. I know, its not a lot and probably doesn't deserve a separate 'Package Arrival' post but I just had to put something up. I do apologize for not being an epic post or the full review but it's better than nothing (maybe?).

Enjoy!

Bandai Gundam Molding Error

ERROR -

Bandai Gundam Molding Error!

So here's something you never want to see:

NOTE: The MG NU Gundam Ver. Ka has two (2) I plates and this is how I was able to compare and locate the issue points.

The spots are much more obvious in real life. The over exposure kind of threw the white balance a little off so now it looks really vibrant and the spots are a little faded in the image.

So there you have it. It is a little disappointing when you spend $80 on a brand new kit, start to build it only to realize that there are some molding errors. The last picture doesn't really bother me but for those who straight build and perhaps just apply topcoat, this may annoy them as it is a discoloration of the plastic itself. You cant rub it off.

I know no company's products are perfect in the production process but it does worry me a little as I have kits in my backlog that I haven't had time to properly inspect (nor should I have to). It's worrying that this runner still made it past quality control. There are a good 8 pieces that are not up to par with quality. When you compare the good runner with the bad runner, it is obvious what the problems are.

I believe that the main issue is due to the runner not having cooled sufficiently before it was handled. This led to the plastic becoming a little deformed.

Please realize that although it is a little annoying, this is the first time I have encountered this problem. It's just... now the pieces will not properly fit and they look pretty terrible as well. I'll have to find a way to fix them - perhaps putting them in really hot water then trying to mold it back into shape? Or I try cutting off some plastic and try to fix it with some putty (pretty adventurous for my level of skill). The last one could be to try and find a way to remold the good pieces. I think I've read somewhere previously that you could use epoxy putty to make a mold then recast it with some more epoxy putty. I'll have to look it up to make sure though.

I have contacted the distributor I had purchased this from and am waiting to hear back from them to see if they will replace the parts for me or if they know a fix I can use.

Alas, very disappointing considering that now the $80-$85 I spent won't yield the results I was hoping to achieve.

If anyone has any ideas on what I can do, please let me know in the comment section below. I'll also update this if I come across this issue again and if I find a fix.

W.I.P 1 - MG Nu Gundam Ver. Ka

Moto X Camera.

Note 3 Camera.

As you can see, Bandai gives you the option to make you Nu Gundam the Dome-G version (white) or the regular version (navy blue).

Regular version with navy blue.

Regular version with navy blue.

Dome-G Version. I think I might keep it this way, I really like the look of the white plate rather than the navy blue. It kind of reminds me of scaled armor or samurai armor, so it looks pretty sweet.

With the hatch door open.

Hatch door closed. It merely slides up and down and is very smooth so no need to worry about it being difficult to open or close.

Please note that the clear piece shown above is also molded in a clear green. The clear green version however is crossed out of the runner section so you can use it if you like but the manual suggests you use the clear version not the clear green. By using the clear green version, you will render different results with an LED inside. I have yet to try it out and compare but you can expect a comparison in the review.

So that was it for the night. It got pretty late (2 am) so it was probably for the good that I ended it there. So far, I can say that the chest looks awesome.
Sorry for the varying qualities of the pictures. My note 3 battery ran out in the middle of the W.I.P so I had to switch to the Moto X camera.

NOTE: As you may notice, I have not applied any of the foils stickers. This is because the initial build is a test fit build to see what parts may become a problem when painting. This way I can rectify anything that may cause a problem with fitting or scratching paint when I get to painting it. I can also add pla plate and do some custom work once it's done so I can add my own little personal touch to it when it's all complete.
