Bandai Gundam Molding Error

ERROR -

Bandai Gundam Molding Error!

So here's something you never want to see:

NOTE: The MG NU Gundam Ver. Ka has two (2) I plates and this is how I was able to compare and locate the issue points.

The spots are much more obvious in real life. The over exposure kind of threw the white balance a little off so now it looks really vibrant and the spots are a little faded in the image.

So there you have it. It is a little disappointing when you spend $80 on a brand new kit, start to build it only to realize that there are some molding errors. The last picture doesn't really bother me but for those who straight build and perhaps just apply topcoat, this may annoy them as it is a discoloration of the plastic itself. You cant rub it off.

I know no company's products are perfect in the production process but it does worry me a little as I have kits in my backlog that I haven't had time to properly inspect (nor should I have to). It's worrying that this runner still made it past quality control. There are a good 8 pieces that are not up to par with quality. When you compare the good runner with the bad runner, it is obvious what the problems are.

I believe that the main issue is due to the runner not having cooled sufficiently before it was handled. This led to the plastic becoming a little deformed.

Please realize that although it is a little annoying, this is the first time I have encountered this problem. It's just... now the pieces will not properly fit and they look pretty terrible as well. I'll have to find a way to fix them - perhaps putting them in really hot water then trying to mold it back into shape? Or I try cutting off some plastic and try to fix it with some putty (pretty adventurous for my level of skill). The last one could be to try and find a way to remold the good pieces. I think I've read somewhere previously that you could use epoxy putty to make a mold then recast it with some more epoxy putty. I'll have to look it up to make sure though.

I have contacted the distributor I had purchased this from and am waiting to hear back from them to see if they will replace the parts for me or if they know a fix I can use.

Alas, very disappointing considering that now the $80-$85 I spent won't yield the results I was hoping to achieve.

If anyone has any ideas on what I can do, please let me know in the comment section below. I'll also update this if I come across this issue again and if I find a fix.

Moto X Camera.

Note 3 Camera.

As you can see, Bandai gives you the option to make you Nu Gundam the Dome-G version (white) or the regular version (navy blue).

Regular version with navy blue.

Regular version with navy blue.

Dome-G Version. I think I might keep it this way, I really like the look of the white plate rather than the navy blue. It kind of reminds me of scaled armor or samurai armor, so it looks pretty sweet.

With the hatch door open.

Hatch door closed. It merely slides up and down and is very smooth so no need to worry about it being difficult to open or close.

Please note that the clear piece shown above is also molded in a clear green. The clear green version however is crossed out of the runner section so you can use it if you like but the manual suggests you use the clear version not the clear green. By using the clear green version, you will render different results with an LED inside. I have yet to try it out and compare but you can expect a comparison in the review.

So that was it for the night. It got pretty late (2 am) so it was probably for the good that I ended it there. So far, I can say that the chest looks awesome.
Sorry for the varying qualities of the pictures. My note 3 battery ran out in the middle of the W.I.P so I had to switch to the Moto X camera.

NOTE: As you may notice, I have not applied any of the foils stickers. This is because the initial build is a test fit build to see what parts may become a problem when painting. This way I can rectify anything that may cause a problem with fitting or scratching paint when I get to painting it. I can also add pla plate and do some custom work once it's done so I can add my own little personal touch to it when it's all complete.

#3 Package Arrival

- Special Edition Arrivals -

#3 What Just Came In / Sneak peak

This is a special edition Package Arrival. Today I received my new Moto X in the mail. I am going to use it as my Ipod 5 gen replacement. I sold the Ipod and bought the Moto X as my replacement music player. I really enjoyed the Note 3 when I received it and needless to say, it got me back into the android game. Now to be fair, the Ipod was a good music player but I didn't really enjoy IOS as much as android so now i'm back into it (haven't had an android device since the Motorola Droid/Milestone 2).

Just a sneak peak to my next build.

NOTE: Since I received it, I have rooted it. If you are curious on rooting the Moto X, you can leave a message below or email me and I can tell you how to root the Moto X with an unlockable bootloader. It's very simple and easy and takes about 10 minutes. So just let me know and i'll be sure to help.
